LEC Summer Finals 2019: Συνέντευξη με τον Trevor “Quickshot” Henry

*
On the day of the big final we were, of course, at the “Nikos Galis” Basketball Court of Athens’ Olympic Athletic Centre. We were chilling at the bleachers when the opportunity to have a quick chat with Trevor “Quickshot” Henry came up and we literally showed up running. Quickshot certainly retained his signature excitement during our chat, the English transcription of which follows right below.

Stavros Vergos: Hello everyone, I'm here at the LEC Finals and I'm joined with Quickshot. So it's nice having you here in Athens. How do you feel? I think it's your third time here.
Quickshot: That's it, yes! I've been here three times for work. I was here for Greek Legends many many years ago and, to this day, fans still send me photos of me hanging out with them and watching the show and the support that I get from Athens is mind-blowing so it's a very special place.

Stavros Vergos: Thank you. EU fans have made the mental connection between you and your voice of excitement and all that and since this year it seems it could finally be the year of Europe during the Worlds. How do you feel? How do you feel about EU?
Quickshot: I'm so nervous. I'm so nervous. We have never... That's not... Since 2015 we have not had two teams at the caliber of G2 and Fnatic like we had Fnatic and Origen the last time the World Championship was in Europe. I think these two teams are better than those two teams. I think that 2019 EU has the ability to maybe be an all EU World Championship final. It depends how the group stage goes, it depends how the bracket is drawn, because if Fnatic and G2 don't win their group, they could play in the quarterfinal, which I'm terrified about. But the thing that I'm very excited is when you watch all the other leagues and you see LCK, LPL, LCS finals, I believe that G2 and Fnatic can beat all of those teams and the only thing that'll prevent them doing that is if they make the mistakes or they hold themselves back.

Stavros Vergos: Alright. Even though back in the years the European teams seemed to get the best out of the Chinese teams, these last couple of years it seems the opposite has happened and the Chinese teams have been the kryptonite for the European teams. Last year Korea wasn't at its finest even though right now it seems SKT and Faker have finally gotten back to form. Do you have a particular team from those two regions that you feel it can challenge both of the best European teams?
Quickshot: Absolutely. I think China is definitely where we'll be looking at first. I think when you look at how FunPlus Phoenix and how RNG played in their final, it's eerily similar to Fnatic and G2 in our final today. If you turn name tags off and you just watch the champions, it might be difficult to pick which one. So I think, stylistically, those will be very exciting, very chaotic games like we're seeing. I am a little nervous about SKT. I think the SKT buff, the SKT Worlds, you know, plot armour, you can never ignore. But when I look at the LCK as a region as a whole, they are one of the slowest regions in the world. They're one of the least action-heavy regions in the world. If SKT rock up and they cannot contain Fnatic or G2 in the early game, they're gonna get crushed. So I'm not as afraid of LCK teams as I am of LPL teams right now. The only thing that I cannot discount is Korean squads always prepare well. Korean squads are very good at defensive League Of Legends. They're very good at playing flawless League Of Legends. Because it's what you need to do to keep Fnatic and G2 away from you.

Stavros Vergos: Alright. One final question. This year the Worlds are gonna happen in Europe. Do you feel like the LEC and your new studio and all of that that finally casting from your home of the past few months... does that make you excited? Is it something that's long overdue?
Quickshot: I'm gonna speak very personally now. And this is Trevor Henry, the human being, talking. I've been extremely fortunate to travel all around the world, with this show, with this game, to the different events. And I have loved it. But I am getting older now, I have an apartment, I have a puppy, I have a wife and for the first four weeks of the World Championship I will get to go home to my house every day. And the only stage where I’ll be shoutcasting in person, live, will be Paris. And I'm actually extremely excited about the quality of life of going to my own home. What I'm more excited about though is seeing the international fans, that I will get to experience Ibai's voice for the first time in Spain and watching foreign fans listening to Chips and Noi in Paris for the finals. Those are the things that you don't get to understand outside these big events and I can't wait for the rest of the world to see how good European commentary is. I want the rest of the world to get crushed by European teams.

Stavros Vergos: Thank you very much, thank you for joining us and I hope we see you back in Athens for a fourth time.
Quickshot: Absolutely. Thank you so much.
